These are both of my designs for my location of choice.
Cut outs in curbs allow for anyone in a wheelchair, or anyone using wheels to have an easier time accessing the sidewalk. In crosswalks, they allow for visually impaired people who use a cane to know when the sidewalk stops without walking into the road.
